I like Lorena's. Good chili verde, good fajita's, good rice and beans. If you're looking for ambiance, this isn't your place. If you're looking for good Mexican that is cheap, go to to Lorena's.

Worst experience in my entire life. I ordered a plate of smothered burritos. The worst burritos I have ever had. When I told my waiter he took them back after taking one bite. Got a bowl of green chili and it was frozen cold. When I was leaving they charged me for the burritos and when I told them I didn't eat them the lady got really disrespectful and threatened to call the police if I didn't pay for them then she even had the nerve to tell me she would of microwaved my chili. Like really? I will never eat there in my life..

The food is your standard non-offensive Mexican-American faire that I enjoy often. I like the Chicken Flautas and Chimichangas. The prices are great -- I can feed my family for $20 and we all leave full with leftovers. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is a few people on their service staff are not as attentive as others. Chances are you'll get a good server, but the slow ones are my only complaint about Lorena's

The food was terrible and the service was poor. We weren't greeted when we walked in, we had to pour our own water. When I asked the waitress if we could get salsa to go with the chips, she just pointed at the ketchup bottle. She never came to check on us and at the end of the meal she just slapped a check on the table and walked off. Oh and the food only comes in one flavor... Bland. Come to think of it, it only comes in one color too. (We ordered burritos and enchiladas with what I think was supposed to be beans and rice).

This place has pretty good food. One thing I do like is their salsa and they do serve large portions. Also a huge menu with plenty of options. Negatives: They start to charge your for chips after your first bowl. I believe it was around $1.48 a bowl and they aren't large portions.

Gross. I don't remember this place being this bad. I'm confident that my whole meal was poured from a variety of cans onto my plate and then microwaved. Neither my wife nor I could stomach the mush on our plate long enough to finish what we ordered. I have no idea how this place stays open, let alone busy. I'm all for a place having some character and that may be the one category that did not disappoint. It has the sorry of ambiance that makes you forget you are in Bountiful and think "wow, I really feel like I am at an 80s truck stop in the seediest corners of the Nevada desert."

There aren't many sit down style mexican restaurants in Davis County (other than the strip mall variety) so me and my wife went to try this out. Horrible location and interior lighting is lacking. the place was pretty packed actually and I have no idea why... it just feels like a run down diner in the middle of nowhere. it sort of is. So I got a smothered burrito with cheese, she got a chorizo con huevos. She said hers was it was rice and beans and eggs mixed with sausage. nothing special not much flavor. Mine however was terrible. Just looked like slop. Beans and cheese everywhere, no substance, and nothing fresh about it. Gross. Only gets a 2 because my wife's food was average and the food is cheap. We aren't going back. Avoid this place. If you want real Mexican food, go to Chungas in Salt Lake. it's like night and day.

I came here with hearing good things about this hole in the wall Mexican place (my favorite kind), and came away disappointed. The place itself is in massive need of a face-lift, but is serviceable. The portions you get are HUGE. Like, one entree could easlilly feed two people. The food was kinda bland though and very salty, so that was a dissapointment, but the amount of food you can get along with the low prices makes it worth a stop if you want TexMex and are in the area.

Bean and cheese smothered with cheese is AWESOME!! The service is great. And th restaurant is clean and tidy. A must visit.

  • Tiffany B.

Food wasn't all that great, the waiter was very nice though! Horchatta was watered down sad for a Mexican joint and the beans were bland & plain

I love this place. I see a lot of negative reviews and, that's fine. I've had my fair share of bad experiences here ,BUT, I cannot get over how delicious their food is. It's one of my favorite places to go have lunch or dinner. The actual restaurant is a little run down. I think they should do a remodel to get it looking a little bit better. Also, the service is on and off. Sometimes I'll have a really good server that is always checking on us and making sure we're having a good experience and, sometimes I get a subpar server. Who doesn't really care if we're out of drinks. And, usually, I feel like the women servers are the rude ones. Lucky for this business, I'm really not that into complaining about service, unless it is horribly bad. And this place, is not that bad. Their yummy food does it for me and that's why I continue to give them my business!

  • Heather R.

Tried this after hearing it was so good very disappointed got chorizo taco and enchilda .. first off yellow cheeks. . Not authentic then only flour tortillas.. and to top it off bla salsa and refried beans mixed with the chorizo so no flavor.. very disappointing

  • Denise L.

Listen to the yelpers that say this place is horrible. The servers know they don't have to serve you because the food runner brings your food and the salsa is in a squeeze bottle and the water is in a jug for your to pour on your own. The food was worse than I remember since the last time I came. The cheese on my enchilada had a weird bad flavor. Usually I don't agree with yelpers but now I can follow whoever hates this place and know I can trust their judgment. It's cheap with a large portion and I guess that is what keeps people coming. 5% discount if you pay cash. Worst sign in their wall is they will not be left responsible for left items at tables.

Happiness is a warm tortilla. Of course, it's the hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants that are the best. This is the best one in Bountiful. I give it four stars despite the lack of ambience. The four stars are based on deliciousness only. The restaurant itself is cheesy. Lots of room for groups (in fact it was so busy one Saturday night I was seated in the back near a Utah family of 23. All at one long table). No music. Plastic everything. Old vinyl booths. Oh and poor ventilation so you are guaranteed to come out with your clothes smelling like a chili rellano. Portions are huge. Try the smothered anything. I'm a cheese enchilada fan and I also dig the chips and hot sauce (let's be fair, that's not salsa). My husband swears by the ribs. Sopapillas on special occasions. Some reviewers have said this is not authentic Mexican food. This is not tex-mex. This is not what you ate when your cruise ship stopped in Acapulco. This is what I ate growing up in the barrio: Mexican-American cuisine from the great southwest. Service is average. Prices are very reasonable. Parking is ample. Open on Sundays and they have a beer license.

I used to eat here a lot in college - hadn't been back in about 10 years. We headed there one night as Red Iguana's wait was over an hour and we had the kids. It was awful. The salsa has zero flavor, the plates are just full of slop, and the service blows. I remember the chili verde being good, but it was hard and cold. We thought about walking out, and probably should have. Would have had better luck at Taco Time, which should tell you something. Ick.

    (1)
  • Kat D.

The placed was packed, so I thought it'd be decent. I was wrong. The salsa for the chips came in a ketchup squeeze bottle and had little flavor. (The chips do not have free refills, just fyi.) I ordered the chicken fajitas and I only ate my food because I was hungry. I also ordered a piña colada beverage and I couldn't finish it. Yuck. The service was good and so was my company, but that was the only enjoyable thing about my dinner. My friend who lives nearby later said, "You went to Lorena's? The only good thing there is the hamburger." Enough said. Never again.

3 stars for portion size, but definitely lacks in flavor. I enjoy authentic Mexican restaurants and this is authentic mixed with fast food.

  • George G.

i walked 3 miles to dine here.,i tried the large combination plate but came to a halt cuz i filled up quickly. their food is not overly priced and very good! i gave em 3 stars for service etc., however if good ole rancho music and tunes had played and/or mariache stuff i would rate as 4

  • Jess F.

Growing up in Arizona, you find "real" Mexican food. Lorena's comes pretty close. The smothered burrito is my go to but anything I've tried has been excellent. And the service is excellent. Prices are inexpensive! The kids meals---corn dogs are always freezer burnt and fries are kinda rubbery. Chips and salsa is very good!

    (3)
  • Neil Y.

This is easily the nastiest Mexican food I've ever come across. There were undertones of very bizarre flavors, the salsa was more of a vinegared tomato paste kept in a ketchup bottle on the table. The meat used for the tacos and the tostadas honestly is likely horse or cat meat. I'm mean really.... I went back and looked after and realize that the menu didn't distinguish my what meet they were using. Oh my god gross.

    (1)
  • Mike S.

A kinda dive type a place that has some original flavor, and excellent chips n salsa. Filled usually with some good ole blue collar workers, with some of the type of folks that just don't feel like workin God bless em.

    (3)
  • Takeya S.

I only gave this place two stars because the greeter was AWESOME. Honestly, the best part of this experience was him. He was very personable. However, the food gets ZERO stars. It was awful. This place is about as mexican as Taco Bell. Being from Southern Cali, I know what good Mexican food tastes like. And I visit Mexico at least twice a year. So, definitely.... If you have EVER had authentic mexican from Southern Cali or Mexico, don't bother getting trapped in this place. Having great Mexican will RUIN your experience here.

    (2)
  • Day S.

Holy hell this is bad. Fast? Yes. So terrible food served fast. Smothered burrito was recommended. It's canned beans in a bad tortilla with decent sauce and cheese. I couldn't eat it. Bathroom reeked of urine and hairy man BO. By the power of Greyskull I will never ever come here again. I'm beyond confused by those who think this place is acceptable.

    (1)
  • Brad N.

I love this place. It seems a bit seedy outside but the food is outstanding and the service is good and quick. The prices are fair and They also offer a 5% discount if you pay with cash. Normally not too busy during anytime of the day so it's worth the stop!

    (5)
  • Cami C.

Love it! This is a family favorite and the smothered burrito with cheese is amazing. Service is really good, and a great price!

    (5)
  • Tyler C.

Kind of a weird place. They charge you for refills on the chips and salsa. The salsa is in a squeeze bottle and is more like hot sauce. The atmosphere is like a diner and the food is very mediocre. Wouldn't recommend it.

    (2)
  • Don G.

Their chips and salsa and refried beans were great! The spice on the chips was an unique twist. That's about all I can say that was nice. My wife wanted me to be mean and nasty but I'll try to be fair. The rest of the dinner items were fair to horrible. I lived in Laredo and know real Mexican and Tex-Mex so I was not expecting authentic Mexican and my expectations were low. However, this was bad by any standard. If I wanted fair Mexican American, I could have gone to Taco Bell, spent less money and enjoyed the meal more. I'm not a big fan of chains and prefer to patronize locally run restaurants so when you hear me endorse a national chain over a family restaurant, the experience was really bad. The Mrs. ordered the Grande Combo Plate and I had the Chicken and Steak Fajita. City Weekly and many Yelp reviewers said Lorena's had the best Chili Verde so maybe we caught them on a bad night. Maybe the cook was ticked at the owners and wanted to put them out of business. My wife couldn't chew the mystery meat. It was like they took overcooked fried pork sirloin chunks, let it sit in an uncovered warmer all day and threw it in sauce just before serving--and put a little over a bean and cheese burrito. We were glad they didn't put a lot on the plate. My wife had me taste the toughest, driest Chili Verde I've ever broken a tooth on and the sauce wasn't very good or authentic either. Her enchilada was cold with semi-hard cheese and enchilada sauce was fair. An Americanized Tostada and a hard shell Taco (authentic Mexican American in a bent Tostada) is a bit redundant. I endured the toughest chicken fajita with a few small bits of leathery steak in my life. I've never experience a plate fajita dinner with a lot of tough meat stuffed into one gordita flour tortilla. Most resturants the fajita comes out by itself on the plate served with a few tortillas on the side. No Pico de Gallo with Fajita's?! Come on! Chili's or Applebees are a huge step ahead with fajita on Lorena's. The meats at the chains are at least tender and flavorful, and also comes with Pico de Gallo and a bit of Guacamole, too. If you want cheap, good and authentic Mexican try the tacos stands on Midvale's Center Street or Victor's Tires on 7th West in Salt Lake. You will experience tender and flavorful meats. If you want cheap and decent Mexican American stick with Dell Taco and get your side of beans in a cup. Rice and beans on a plate with bad main courses doesn't make for a good meal or authentic Mexican. MEXICAN is supposed to be prepared to make even the cheapest cuts of meat tender and the sauces flavorful.

From the service to the food disappointed is not even an adequate word to describe the experience. Don't be fooled by the reviews and quote on quote authenticity. Simply the worst dining experience I've had in Bountiful. When a restaurant can't manage to maintain its rice stock you know there's a problem... If your favorite condiment is ketchup and your favorite seasoning is salt you'll love it other wise stay clear of Lorena's.

  • Dennis J.

Food is blah. No flavor what so ever. The service was so slow. Never coming back. Just went back and read some of the reviews people wrote. Wish I had read them before I came. Waiting for the check for 10 minutes. Oh my god I'm ready to walk out. Terrible terrible terrible. ... beyond terrible

Clean and nice and cool. It was pretty good almost identical to La Frontera in Sandy which is my fav mexican restraunt. If lorenas had more consistent salsa it would be alot better.

  • Brenna D.

Food: It took me a few times to find something I liked. I only get the shredded beef Chimichanga because it's the only thing I like. Service: SUCKS. SUCKS. SUCKS! I base my tips of service and I have given the worst tips I have ever given at this place. Ambiance: it needs a deep clean and some updating.

Good food! I feel in general that Utah lacks hugely in the Mexican food department, but this place is definitely better than a ton of other options in the county.

Open on Sunday? In Davis County? It's real folks! I don't know what's up with the listing, but I've been there on Sunday and can report it's not a mirage. Still, it's mostly another greasy Mexican joint. A step above, but this ain't no Tacos Daniel or Chungas. The steaks are decent and come with tasty potatoes. Beans & rice are better than average for sure. The servings are enormous - which is good if you find yourself starvingly hungry on a Sunday round these parts, so keep in mind when ordering. My usual eating companions like the chile verde and enchiladas a great deal, and report the burritos are up to Mexican-diner standards. Don't bother with the tamales, they're worth missing. Service is very friendly, attentive, and usually humorous. Charming staff goes a long way in my book, and Lorena's does that pretty well. The vibe there overall: fun, casual, and like it's always filled with regulars, makes this a good place to be even if the food isn't fantastic. It's a solid choice, and hey, where else ya gonna go on Sunday? ;)

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. best chili verde! Usually quick service, and very reasonably priced...

    (4)
  • Regan L.

Never have understood why this place is so popular. Average to low quality food and service. Extremely Americanized style food. Just not a very good place to eat.

    (2)
  • Michelle R.

This is the best option in the cookie cutter Utah Mexican food restaurants. Lorena's has the best chili verde and salsa. The prices are less then that of La Frontera or La Puente also. I used to work here so I know that the food is made fresh daily. It can get noisy in here and the servers often have a lot of tables . . . but the food is great and the prices are low.

    (4)
  • Aaron N.

This place is hands down the best authentic Mexican food in Utah (and for that matter pretty much anywhere I have ever been). Granted I have not been to places closer to Mexico (eg, Texas), but have been around a lot. Lorena's has the best chili verde I have EVER tasted!!!! Once you try it, it will change your life. There are very few things I dream of and crave constantly and the chili verde here is usually on the top of my list.

First thing's first... Go to Lorena's! My family and I have gone here for probably 15 years now. I every time someone in the family comes to visit from out of town, be sure to see us at Lorena's. Before tonight, I hadn't been there in a few months. I guess because we hadn't had any visitors and my wife's not real keen on the place. But this weekend, my brother's in town and he wanted to go to "our place." We met up at 6 o'clock (prime time for eating out) and got seated right away. Normally, I would recommend their salsa to anyone that loves non-chunky, pretty spicy salsa (no, I'm not trying to say it's SUPER spicy, it's just at the perfect temperature for a half Mexican like myself), but today, it was not good. It tasted like spicy tomato sauce. And, unfortunately for me, don't like my salsa tasting like tomato sauce. But in my 15 years of going there, this is the FIRST time I've ever had this problem. I pretty much have a 'usual.' It's the chicken enchilada on a flour tortilla with green enchilada sauce, not red... And, of course, sour cream on the side. Honestly, it's delicious! I love it. One enchilada is the perfect size for a feller like me (around 200 lbs.). Another favorite is the regular smothered burrito. Tasty! If you happen to sit where Ernie is your is your server, consider yourself lucky. He's pretty awesome. I give Lorena's 4/5 stars because of the quick, very friendly service, great food and it easily fits large and small groups alike. Fully recommend.

  • Lorryn P.

Well what can I say? The service was ok once they got to us. The waiter was really overworked, I assume they were understaffed. Unfortunately he got the order wrong. Not too complicated, beef enchilada with chili verde, no ranchero sauce. My husband really emphasized it. The waiter seemed harried and he got it wrong. Since he was spread so thin we never saw him until he brought the check. The atmosphere here is plenty casual, quite worn down and shabby. But we knew this going in. The food here is just ok. It is consistently just ok! My husband usually likes it more then I do, tonight not so much. They do a banging business so lots of people must really love this place! I am kind of "mehh" about it.

Really I would never go here again. Some gross Mexican food!

  • Troy C.

There are numerous restaurants in Utah that have the same menu. Lorenas, La Frontera, La Puenta, La Fuenta, Las Lunas. I believe that Lorena's in Bountiful does a better job than the rest. I go to these restaurants (Lorena's espeically) for the Chili Verde, I either get it as a burrito or as Huevos Rancheros. The later is good because it comes with fried potatoes, eggs, a big slab of ham and a couple homemade flour tortillas.

  • Mark V.

Nice service. Food was delivered to the table quickly. Set expectations for HUGE portions, and Mexicanish food. Didn't bother me that it wasn't 100% authentic. I lived in southern Mexico for 4 years. Took home half my meal and enjoyed it the next day. Very casual atmosphere. Those who desire authenticity will be disappointed. Those who want a few steps up from Taco Bell will be satisfied.

Simply overrated! Large portions of poorly cooked food for people who don't know any better....

  • Dale D.

Do not expect more than they are built for at Lorena's. They do simple, no frills Mexican Food, the way gringo's like it. Do not bring an attitude, the help is better when you remember where you are.

Lorena's is a wonderful place to come in and just relax to enjoy the mexican atmosphere. They serve chips and this sauce at your table to start off with and I'll just say if you aren't used to spicy you may want to find another restaurant. I am a huge fan of spicy food especially Mexican, so I give a 5! Try the steak and potatoes with rice and beans. It is oh so delicious!

    (4)
  • Melissa D.

I am a huge fan of Mexican food, and if your looking for a place that you can enjoy some hearty good Mexican food without the risk of singing porcelain karaoke afterwards than Lorena's is your place. Everything from the ice cold beer to the chips and salsa and enchiladas are all good. Now I'm not raving that its the best place to go by far, but it's far from the worse. The portions are typical so bigger and you'll most likely take a to go box home with your leftover goodies for a later meal, and the prices are fair as well. It's also pretty kid friendly as far as their menu goes and you can include American options for them. The only downfall is if you order off the kids meal you can't customize at all, I.e. no tomatoes etc. it's simply, come as it is which is not a smart option considering as a parent you tend to customize their meals the most as their growing into their own tastes. All in its A-OK for me :) and their open n sundays which is a huge plus here in Bountiful.

Great find in Salt Lake. Stopped here after a long drive down from Jackson, Wy. The food was hot and very flavorful. Sandra has to be one of the most attentive servers ever. She took great care to assure enough space on the table to prevent burns from hot plates. It's easy access off of Interstate 15 was a big plus.

I amazed there are not more reviews here. Lorena's has the best Mexican food we've ever eaten. The Green Chile Verde is award winning and a favorite with customers year after year. We've been going here for nearly 20 years and they're always consistent (In a good way). Once in a while the service slows down after we've been served our food but it's usually because they are so busy. We're always looking for an excuse to eat here because the food is great and we get our moneys worth.

Fresh, thick tortillas, guacamole salad with fresh avacado, large portions of Mexican comfort food for a great price. Their salsa is great, has some heat which I appreciate. The beans are great as well. Will be returning for another round.

Now this is good Mekhecan Food! Fast and Cheap Tex Mex style. Very Denny'sisk, but Spanish. Nice colorful murals on the walls really cute. I don't think I've ever waited more than 5-15 minutes for my meal to hit the table no matter how crowded. A great dish is the ground beef enchilada with a "flour tortilla" smothered in Enchilada sauce. Huge and you can barely finish it, well I can if I'm starving. Free chips and salsa, go and enjoy! don't forget to buy a mint at the counter on your way out, it's the perfect finish.

Lorena's is the kind of Mexican restaurant that cuts straight to the point. Cheap prices, huge portions, and amazing 'authentic-yet-not-at-all-pretentious' food. The owners, the servers, and the hosts are all friendly, genuine people. The Chili Verde is to die for. It's a lot thicker and a lot heartier than most chili's you'll find. I'd almost compare it to a spicy pork gravy than anything else. You may not find the overrated sense of snobby cred that the hipsters give the red/blue iguana, but you will find some amazing home-made mexican food for next to nothing.

  • Mike J.

The best smothered burritos ever!!! Their chili Verde is outstanding, its the only thing that's real good. the tacos and a couple of other items are not that great, but chili Verde and the french fries are the BEST! I have been coming here for years and NEVER had any problems and the food is always good. I am a customer for life. Make sure you ask for Ernie to be your waiter.

Great service, and the Chili Verde is great. We have been going to Lorena's for years and have never been disappointed. Easily the best Mexican in Davis County.

Boo! This place is an embarrassment to the rest of the Mexican food community. By far the worst mexican food I have ever had the displeasure of tasting (including taco bell). The staff was nice though.

If you read my reviews you know I am not a hater, I have never said this about a restaurant before. This food sucks! I cannot believe it was recommended to me and even more I can't believe they are still open. No flavor, no seasoning what so ever, who has ever had BLAND Mexican food. Yes the portions are big, but there is no quality. Nothing is fresh, the meat in my enchilada was PINK and tasteless, the rice was undercooked and had less taste than white rice with salt. The smothered burrito was runny beans in a tortilla covered in a nasty thick sticky chili verde with pieces of hard dry meat in it. Gag.. I couldn

I have been going here for years and the only reason is their smothered burritos are the best. Especially the next day after the tortillas have absorbed the verde flavor. I order 3 smothered with cheese and a side of tortillas and never eat more than 1 the 1st day knowing the treat I will have tomorrow. And I'm a big eater! Hint: watch the charges as they most often will add in their tip on the bill and it's hard to tell because they just give a single amount on the ticket. Don't be afraid to ask how they came to the total! Hint 2: Only order the smothered burritos as the rest of their food is subpar at best.

I am a seasoned pro at battling food poisoning, but this place just kicked my ass! SO SICK. Stomach flu X2. It was the typical 4-5 hour after eating trip to bathroom with an all night projectile vomiting/toilet action. Down graded to an Absolute Zero rating. Soooo not worth it. Am considering calling the health dept. Can never return. Fool me once...

When you walk in you are greeted by a dark, sad, quiet environment. No music, no people talking, no dishes clanking, just a bunch of overweight, pasty white people, who think the "salsa" in the stereotypical red ketchup bottle is authentic Mexican as opposed to what it really is, tomato sauce with red pepper sprinkled into it. We were seated at a table with an enormous number "10" placard posted over it, with another sign right under it that read "One bowl of chips per table. Additional chips available for $1.45." So this was pretty inviting. When you open the menu I noticed that additional chips were available for $1.75. I wonder if they come in a slightly larger bowl than the $1.45 chips... In any case I ordered and I was served with enormous amounts of beans, rice, and enchiladas on a scorching hot plate. This really is identical to La Puente, which is identical to Las Lunas, which is identical to La Frontera which is identical to...you get the point. Any way for 4 people the bill came to like 32 bucks. How can I complain? Plus we had tons of left overs. So 2 stars for their humorous menu and depressing environment. An extra star for the mass quantities and decent taste of their AMERICAN food and prices.

We went there for lunch , there were lot of people there. It is a big place. THE FOOD WAS horrible. I dont know if anybody with any sense of integrity can take some boiled chicken WITH ABSOLUTELY no flavour and pass it as enchiladas. The red sauce was clearly out of a bottle, that was bad too The chips and salsa is on the table. The salsa is not freshly made, seems out of a can.The customers in Utah like it bland or some body is patronising this horrible food, for this place to be doing well! I have never had such bad experience with mexican food!Again what a courage , to serve this as Mexican. Maybe this is Utah Mexican.

Really good mexican food, they use quite a bit of cheese so be prepared, I really like the flavor their chili verde but I don't like the meat they use in it, it is really dry. They give you quite a bit of food and the prices are cheap, hard to beat.

I had a great lunch here today. This is the only place I've ever been were you can get Menudo during the week. Usually only a Saturday & Sunday morning dish (or bowl) it was excellent! I also tried the smothered chile verde burrito which is similar to La Puente/ La Frontera in taste if not slightly better for less money.

This place will make you fat....but I guess that's what good mexican food does to you. Cheap prices, huge portions, moderately friendly staff.....what more could you want? Their cheese is top notch and the chili verde is to kill for. Literally. I'd kill for it. If you go enough, the staff will remember your order.....which is a good and bad thing.

We went here for business reasons for planning our wedding. The atmosphere is what you expect for a Mexican restaurant. The dole up the Chips and salsa when seated. Their soda is great. I tried their Tamales since it is the season of the Tamal. Their Tamales are great my fiancée got the chile verde quesasdilla burger. Their Chili verde is great and their Mexican rice is really tasty. I woudl recommend to eat here any day and their prices are great!

  • Cole X.

Meh. This is a well known place for mexican food in Davis County but their quality has gone down and their service has suffered too. Go up the road to La Puente. It will cost an extra dollar or too (literally) but the service an quality are far better.

Large portions, reasonable prices, and efficient service. Some dishes are cheap and bland; others exceed expectations for a low-end Mexican restaurant.

I found a great Mexican Restaurant with the quality and authenticity of real Mexican food. It's called Lorena"s in Woods Cross just off the freeway on the west side great food great service and great prices. Better food at half the price. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food is great and the prices are very reasonable. I will drive the 20 miles to eat great food and enjoy great service. The problem with La frontera Mi Ranchito and La puenta is they have out grown what made them great eateries and are all about the money, the prices have skyrocketed and the quality of the food and service have dropped like a rock.

In the six or seven years that have frequented this establishment I have never had anything other than the smothered burritos. Not that i'm stuck in my ways I'm just plain scared. They are cheap and good. It's a great place to just sit and chat with friends, you can linger and they don't really care. BE WARNED HOWEVER, this is a very consistent place!!! You WILL get the runs, but it might be worth it. The service is fantastic in the sense that you will be seated, they will bring you chips salsa and a pitcher of water. They will take your order and they will give you your ticket. If you are lucky you might get a refill, but I cant promise that. If you have any mind set other than this you will be disappointed; you are not special and they will not treat you special. If you happen to see your waiter after your food arrives (other then to bring you your bill---its' delivered like a death certificate you will not see this person again, ever) note that moment as special. It's like seeing a unicorn or something, super special... The atmosphere is eclectic; you will see construction worker, lowly businessmen and crystal-meth tweakers and the occasional family that is feeling curious. If you understand all this and are okay with it, you will have an awesome time. It's a guilty pleasure for sure. P.S. your clothes will smell a bit funky after going there so if you have a hot date or something later in the evening plan on changing!! Just a note.

People told me how wonderful the food was here. My experience was just fair. There aren't a lot of Mexican places really close but it wouldn't be my first choice.

This place has pretty good food. One thing I do like is their salsa and they do serve large portions. Also a huge menu with plenty of options. Negatives: They start to charge your for chips after your first bowl. I believe it was around $1.48 a bowl and they aren't large portions.

Tried this after hearing it was so good very disappointed got chorizo taco and enchilda .. first off yellow cheeks. . Not authentic then only flour tortillas.. and to top it off bla salsa and refried beans mixed with the chorizo so no flavor.. very disappointing

  • Brandon K.

  • Jaren H.

    (4)
  • Shiloh W.

By far this is the worst restaurant I have ever attended its a bad thing you caint rate a in the negative number or else it would be a (-5) I was trying to enjoy a meal and damn it didn't have any flavor and believe everything was canned PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND THIS PLACE WARNING : may cause diarrhea , vomiting , stomach ache , light headed ...... ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK ..... THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN .... yuk

    (1)

    (1)

Really I would never go here again. Some gross Mexican food!

I enjoy authentic Mexican restaurants and this is authentic mixed with fast food.

i walked 3 miles to dine here.,i tried the large combination plate but came to a halt cuz i filled up quickly. their food is not overly priced and very good! i gave em 3 stars for service etc., however if good ole rancho music and tunes had played and/or mariache stuff i would rate as 4

    (3)
  • Mike S.

A kinda dive type a place that has some original flavor, and excellent chips n salsa. Filled usually with some good ole blue collar workers, with some of the type of folks that just don't feel like workin God bless em.

  • Brad N.

I love this place. It seems a bit seedy outside but the food is outstanding and the service is good and quick. The prices are fair and They also offer a 5% discount if you pay with cash. Normally not too busy during anytime of the day so it's worth the stop!

  • Cami C.

Clean and nice and cool. It was pretty good almost identical to La Frontera in Sandy which is my fav mexican restraunt. If lorenas had more consistent salsa it would be alot better.

    (2)

    (1)

It's a solid choice, and hey, where else ya gonna go on Sunday? ;)

    (5)
  • Dale D.

Do not expect more than they are built for at Lorena's. They do simple, no frills Mexican Food, the way gringo's like it. Do not bring an attitude, the help is better when you remember where you are.

  • John C.

Gag.. I couldn

Beany, cheesy, monotonous, Mexican mediocrity for the masses.

Really good mexican food, they use quite a bit of cheese so be prepared, I really like the flavor their chili verde but I don't like the meat they use in it, it is really dry. They give you quite a bit of food and the prices are cheap, hard to beat.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
